Paul continues his discussion of spiritual maturity with the Colossians believers.  He gives them specifics that should appear in their lives: that their hearts would be strengthened through their unifying love for one another and leading to a firm conviction that grows through our love for one another and understanding which comes from knowing Jesus.  Spiritual maturity is essential for the church!  We must live passionately for our Savior, growing in our love for him by faithfully loving one another.  Spiritual maturity consists of unity with one another, discernment, endurance and active obedience!

Paul writes to the church of Colossae to bolster their understanding and confidence in the supreme position, glory and sufficiency of Jesus for their daily lives and interactions as a church.  Paul addresses the Colossians heresy that is plaguing this body of believers, but does so primarily through his instruction about Jesus and the impact that Jesus should have in the lives of true believers.  The preeminence of Christ is on display throughout this letter to the Colossians believers.
