Decision 2020

Graceway-Church.Decision-2020

This past week our nation went to the polls to cast their vote for political candidates to lead our country in the days ahead.  No matter your political views or leanings the results are far less than desirable and leave all of us with a less than pleasant taste in our mouths over the process and the outcome.  But how should we respond as believers?

If you read throughout the Old Testament, you see many stories and accounts of humanity doing their best to accomplish their purpose in their own way, but it always and ultimately served to accomplish the purpose of God!  One of the greatest lessons I received from my parents, but my mother especially was this rock-solid faith that God is powerful and capable of anything and certainly everything he promises to do!  God does what he says he will do and he will act always on behalf of his people, but God does not always act in our time frame or from a human perspective – the way we would act or respond! Certainly, any thinking person would assume that God would rescue his enslaved people in Egypt long before 400 years passed, and yet God told Abraham they would be slaves in Egypt for 400 years (Genesis 15:14).  God was not surprised or overwhelmed by the plight of his people!  When it was time, God supernaturally rescued his people and if you look carefully at human history – Egypt was never the same again!

Decision-2020.CropEven in the New Testament, we see in the accounts of Jesus' life by the gospel writers, the efforts of humanity through political means and manipulation to undermine and destroy Jesus.  It ultimately ends in the crucifixion of Jesus and yet Peter when explaining the sacrifice of Jesus states clearly, "Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know-- 23 this Man, delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. 24 "And God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power. (Act 2:22-24 NASB) God was in control of and planned the death of Jesus on our behalf!  The ways of God do not always make sense to us, but we can trust him to accomplish his greater purposes! "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. (Isa 55:8 NASB)

Our God is still in control, even in 21st Century America!  I will never forget the day my mom reminded me as a teenager that our trust can only be in our God.  She quoted Psalm 20:7 to me, Some boast in chariots, and some in horses; But we will boast (trust) in the name of the LORD, our God. (NASB) Some people put their trust in human strength, in the possession of things that appear to be mighty and provide rescue; but for believers, our hope, our confidence, our trust must always be firmly fixed on God! Our trust must never be in humanity or the systems of humanity or the governments of humanity that cannot save or rescue us.  Instead, our hope and trust must be firmly fixed on our God, our Savior Jesus and all we possess because of him! Graceway-Church.TwoRoads-Decision

Believers, the decision is very clear – we MUST trust our all-wise, all-powerful, faithful and loving Savior! Our God has not lost control and He will not lose control!

What will do?  How will you respond?
