As we continue the third vision recorded in Daniel 9, again Gabriel comes to Daniel to delivery the message from God. Here we have the prophecy of Seventy weeks coming in the future for Israel, for the people of God and for the city of God. There seem to be definite implications about the coming Messiah, Jesus, his crucifixion and the destruction of Jerusalem. The purpose for this message is another reminder, the kingdom of God triumphs over all human kingdoms and God knows all that is coming and will occur in human history. You do not know the future, but God does and you can trust him with your life. 

Daniel records events of the captivity of Judah (the two southern tribes combined following the civil war of Israel and the division of the twelve tribes). Daniel appropriately presents the sovereign work of God even in these foreign lands and over these foreign governments. Kings and kingdoms are subject to God, even when while they may not fully realize it. Through the narrative section (Chs. 1-6), Daniel demonstrates the sovereign hand of God at work presently among humanity. In the final prophetic section (Chs. 7-12), Daniel demonstrates the sovereign hand of God at work to build his kingdom in the future.
