Paul continues his discussion of being declared righteous. The law, your association with the law, does not make you righteous. Being declared righteous is based on faith in God, believing that God raised Jesus from the dead and Jesus died in our place, for our sins. Abraham continues to be the example that demonstrates that God declares us righteous by faith. You can believe & you must trust God, only through Jesus, to do exactly as he has promised!
Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of them may have been questioning him, his message and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
