Here Paul turns from his descriptions of the sinfulness of humanity, both (3:9-20) Jews (2:1-29) and Gentiles (1:18-32). Now, he begins to build his explanation of deliverance from sin. The problem for every person, everywhere is sin, but Paul offers the hope that is available in Jesus through faith. The remedy for sin is not found within, it is found in Jesus alone by faith. God sent Jesus to live, to die as a sacrifice for our sins. You need the righteousness of God to be right before him and the only way to have it is through Jesus. The righteousness of God is available to you through Jesus, by faith in him - in his sacrificial death for you. His death satisfies the wrath of God against your sin. You can be redeemed only through the sacrificial death of Jesus for your sins. Jesus alone makes salvation possible. You can only be declared righteous through faith in Jesus! 

Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of them may have been questioning him, his message and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
