The narrative section of Daniel continues with the account of Nebuchadnezzar's dreams. He asks the wise men of Babylon to give him the dream and the interpretation, they cannot, but Daniel prays to God and because he is supreme in power, wisdom and knowledge, he can and does. Daniel offers a prayer of praise and thanks to God for his answer - rehearsing the attributes of God that set him far above any human wise men, kings or kingdoms. Daniel returns and offers the dream and the interpretation and is rewarded by the king. Within this account, we see again the advance of God's Kingdom. It will ultimately crush all other kingdoms of the world. Throughout this account, the message is clear: the power, knowledge and wisdom of our God far exceeds the wisest men of the world. Because our God is supreme, we can trust him - each day, with whatever circumstances come into our lives.

Daniel records events of the captivity of Judah (the two southern tribes combined following the civil war of Israel and the division of the twelve tribes). Daniel appropriately presents the sovereign work of God even in these foreign lands and over these foreign governments. Kings and kingdoms are subject to God, even when while they may not fully realize it. Through the narrative section (Chs. 1-6), Daniel demonstrates the sovereign hand of God at work presently among humanity. In the final prophetic section (Chs. 7-12), Daniel demonstrates the sovereign hand of God at work to build his kingdom in the future.
