Proclaiming the Gospel

January 21, 2024 Speaker: pastor dave Series: Romans - Gospel Confidence

Topic: Gospel, The Gospel, Romans, 1-AM Sermons Passage: Romans 1:8-17

As Paul continues his letter to the Romans, he reminds them of his prayers for them, including his prayers of thanks for them. He explains his desire to come to them and minister to them and for them to minister to him. Paul expresses his desire to proclaim the gospel to them and the proceeds to give a statement about the gospel. Paul asserts that he is not ashamed of the gospel. Paul goes on to describe three very important aspects of the gospel's connection to God and therefore the confidence that we can have in the gospel as believers. Paul offers the power, the righteousness and the faithfulness of God as the foundation for our confidence in the gospel of God. Because of all God is and all he does, and has done through the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf - we can and must confidently rest in him and faithfully follow him. It is essential for us to understand that our understanding of the gospel enables us to trust God and live our lives for him.

Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of them may have been questioning him, his message and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
