Paul begins Romans, his largest, letter with a longer introduction than he offers in his other letters throughout the New Testament. This introduction presents the triune work and provision of the gospel for mankind. The gospel begins with God, Jesus comes as a man to carry it out and the Spirit demonstrates through the resurrection that Jesus is indeed God. In his grace, God offers us an escape from our sin and hope to live as believers, honoring him in our actions toward others. The gospel is personal, the gospel is for you and it calls you to life a purposeful life.
Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of them may have been questioning him, his message and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
