Paul is overwhelmed with joy over all that God has accomplished in the lives of these believers in Thessalonica.  He is rejoicing and offers a brief look at how he prayed for the believers. He explains his requests in verses 11-13 and in explaining Paul is giving an explanation of how believers grow and ultimately continue to flourish.

Throughout the letters to the Thessalonians, Paul writes to encourage these believers through his pastoral words of comfort, instruction and exhortation.  He writes of his relationship and love for the church; he encourages them to grow in their faith, to increase in their love for God and one another and to hope in the God who controls not just their future but their present circumstances.
