Paul states his longing to see the believers in Thessalonica, but also informs them of the inability he has had to come to them.  So, he has sent Timothy to strengthen them in their faith and help establish them to continue to endure!  When Timothy returns to Paul, his report causes great joy and comfort for Paul as he continues to face opposition and affliction.  The personal growth of individual believers is always a great encouragement to every minister!

Throughout the letters to the Thessalonians, Paul writes to encourage these believers through his pastoral words of comfort, instruction and exhortation.  He writes of his relationship and love for the church; he encourages them to grow in their faith, to increase in their love for God and one another and to hope in the God who controls not just their future but their present circumstances.
