Testing Jesus!

February 6, 2022 Speaker: pastor dave Series: The Gospel according to Luke - Certainty for Believers

Topic: 1-AM Sermons, Luke, Priorities, Jesus Passage: Luke 20:20-40

Jesus has already entered Jerusalem and is now regularly teaching in the temple. The people are gathering to hear him and the religious leaders are increasing in their desire to kill Jesus. Luke first gives the account of the religious leaders calling the authority of Jesus into question and when Jesus responds with the parable of the tenets, they discern he is talking to them and about them.  They longing to kill Jesus only intensifies, but their fear of the people prevents them from action.

Now they approach Jesus with the goal of trapping him with their questions; first, a political question and second, a theological dilemma is presented. Jesus masterfully addresses both questions and forces the silence of both his opponents and the crowds because of his wisdom. Jesus offers us an approapriate response in our highly political world and he offers instruction in response to the theological dilemma of the Sadducees. How are you responding to Jesus?  Are you questioning him? Are you following him? He calls us to come, he calls us to follow - will be obey.
