James continues with his exhortations to the church, to people who have been scattered because of persecution. James is still passionate that they engage appropriately with one another. Here he challenges believers not to have favoritism toward others in the church. He rebukes the tendancy everyone has to be partial toward some and resist/reject others. Favoritism and Partiality have no place in the church, this is part of the message of Jesus and definitely the focus of James here.
James, the brother of Jesus, writes to Jewish believers who have been scattered, likely because of persecution. James encourages these believers through instruction on trials, genuine faith, and the appropriate interactions within the community of believers. His goal is to give guidance to these believers as they continue to engage with one another apart from the oversight of the established church in Jerusalem.
