Jesus offers forgiveness and restoration to Peter and declares what is coming in his future; John offers clarity on his own future.  Love should motivate our service to one another; and genuine discipleship (following him) should be our commitment no matter what comes into our lives.

Throughout the Gospel of John we see the truth that Jesus is the promised one, the anointed one from God through his signs, witnesses, and statements; and he has come to rescue humanity from sin!
