Paul brings everything he has been telling the church at Corinth to a head here and calls them to understand the vital nature of ministry and how it is to be conducted.  Paul gives some perspective on his own motivation for ministering by reminding them that because our trials and suffering are only temporary, we must focus on the eternal realities that we enjoy through Jesus!    

Throughout 2 Corinthians Paul addresses the impact of suffering on ministry, life and the message; the complexity of human relationships at times - the suffering they can cause and the joy of being reconciled when we obey and follow the guidance of the Spirit in our lives.
