As human beings it is often easier to put our trust in our accomplishments or in our relationships or in the recommendations we can be given by influential people!  This was exactly the argument used against Paul at times - your negative experiences are proof that you are not doing what God has called you to do!  Paul argues that ministry is not about credentials or recommendations - it is about the message and work of Jesus on our behalf!! 

So, where is your confidence today?  Position?  Accomplishment?  Credentials? Recommendations? By God's grace our confidence, our adequacy, our contention, etc. must be in Jesus!

Throughout 2 Corinthians Paul addresses the impact of suffering on ministry, life and the message; the complexity of human relationships at times - the suffering they can cause and the joy of being reconciled when we obey and follow the guidance of the Spirit in our lives.
