John transitions here to Jesus ongoing response to the Pharisees.  They ask if they are blind and indeed they are, but they do not see it.  Jesus explains in an illustration using the sheepfold that the Pharisees are actually like thieves and robbers.  They are taking advantage of the sheep rather than caring for them.  Jesus contrasts throughout the difference between the Good Shepherd and these false Shepherds. 

Throughout the Gospel of John we see the truth that Jesus is the promised one, the anointed one from God through his signs, witnesses, and statements; and he has come to rescue humanity from sin!
