Knowing God

Knowing God produces Trust in God!

Have you ever had a person in your life that you trusted completely?  Maybe a parent, an employer, a friend, your spouse; no matter what they were to you, you knew you could always trust them, because they had your back, or you thought they did. For most of us, they have let us down or disappointed us at some point in their action or response.  How did you feel?  What thought went through your mind?  The reality is that in every single human relationship, we are at some point hurt, confused or disappointed in some way; but this is never the case with our God! MilkyWay.KnowingGod

For many believers, one of our greatest struggles in our walk with God is our view of him.  The problem for many of us is that we think of God as a principal, a police officer, a banker, or a grocery clerk that is waiting to catch us in some deviant action or we view him as being available to us whenever we need and want his service.  He is waiting to punish us, or he is available to get us whatever we want whenever we want it.  This is not who our God is.  Our God is the sovereign Creator of the universe!  The events and affairs of humanity are in his hands!  Often, we are so consumed with how everything affects us that we cannot see that our lives, as believers, are supposed to be about him!  When we fail to trust him, most often, it is because we do not really know him, or certainly do not know him like we ought to or are able to.

Attached is a guide to the attributes of God. It is by no means exhaustive, but it does give nine natural attributes and ten moral attributes of God.  Each attribute is listed with some limited explanation, and there are several passages of Scripture that identifyTrusting.LighthouseSurroundedbyWater each attribute and the specifics of that attribute. Take a few minutes over the course of the next week or two to grow in your understanding of God.  He is good, and so patient with us.  He longs for us to know him enough to genuinely trust him, even as our world seems to recoil in confusion and fear.  We can not only trust, but we can rest confidently in the mighty ability of our God; knowing not only is he in control, but he cares deeply for us and has compassion on us in our weakness!  He can care for you, no matter what your need may be!  Today, trust him and rest in his compassionate presence and care for you!  You can access the list of God's attributes here.
