As Paul begins to come to a conclusion in this letter to the Romans, he offers here specific plans and motivations or ministry. Paul gives us specifics here about his mission. Paul here encourages the believers in Rome that they possess the necessary tools to admonish or instruct one another. He has instructed them because of the truth given to him by God for Gentile believers, in particular. This is his ministry focus; his mission was to preach the gospel of Jesus to Gentiles who had never heard. Paul gives them his ministry itinerary and then calls them to pray for him. Paul calls them to pray specifically. Prayer is the power that drives real ministry and Paul understood this and wanted believers to understand it as well. Even as believers in the 21st Century, our mission and ministry must be empowered by God through prayer.

Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of these believers may have been questioning him, his message, and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and to defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
