Wake Up

Topic: Transformed Living, Romans, 1-AM Sermons Passage: Romans 13:11-14

Paul continues to challenge the believers in Rome to be transformed, here calling them to be alert, to the return of Jesus. Paul begins with a call to wake up and understand the time and because of the time to be increasingly transformed into the image of Jesus. He calls believers to put off "the work of darkness" and to put on "the weapons of light." This call to put off sin and evil and the call to put on the traits of God is repeated several times throughout the New Testament. As believers, we are called to be transformed increasingly into the image of Jesus. This has been Paul's focus, especially since Romans 12:1-2. Believers must be transformed, by the word through the Spirit, and by God's grace live in a manner worthy of Jesus and all he has accomplished for them.

Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of these believers may have been questioning him, his message, and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and to defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
