On a very special Sunday for our church, we conducted our first ever baby and child dedication service. This is a service where we acknowledge the desire of parents to raise their children to be mature, followers of Jesus. This is the longing of every true believer for their children. Paul addresses this issue very pointedly as he speaks about Christian homes to the church at Ephesus. Paul charges christian parents to bring their children to maturity, through both discipline and instruction that points their children to Jesus. Parents are responsible to do this work of direction and helping to bring their own children to maturity. The church is to come alongside and support parents in this pursuit. Biblical, gospel-centered parents are intentional, attentive to guide and instruct their children toward Jesus.
