As Paul continues his climactic address to the believers in Rome, he now moves to challenge Gentile believers to avoid pride and arrogance in their response to unbelieving Jews. This challenge has tremendous implications for us in the church today. So many of our issues in the church come from our own pride and arrogance, often over issues we perceive to be good; yet Paul challenges believers, then and now, to engage unbelievers and one another with humility. We, too, must guard against pride toward unbelievers, in both our thinking and in our interactions with them. 

Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of them may have been questioning him, his message and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
