As Paul brings this section to a conclusion, he offers grounding and foundational truths to support followers of Jesus, no matter what comes into their lives. Paul offers two amazing assurances for believers: God is for you (caring, protecting and vindicating his people) and God loves you. The love of God throughout these verses is described as certain, unchanging, overflowing, all-sufficient, eternal and sustaining. There is no form of suffering (tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, or sword) in all the world that separate us from the love of Christ. This truth can and must sustain us as we walk through all of the varied circumstances of this life. In response, you must live with certainty as a believer, knowing that God is for you and loves you!

Throughout Romans, Paul offers a defense of what he believes and teachers about the gospel for these believers in Rome he has not yet met. Some of them may have been questioning him, his message and how it relates to Judaism. Paul writes to explain at length the connection of Jesus, the gospel and defend it, in spite of the rejection of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah by many Jews.
