As we begin the book of 2 Timothy, Paul begins with an exhortation to Timothy. 2 Timothy 1:7 is famous as a proof text against fear.  Paul is specifically connecting the verse to the scenario in which Timothy finds himself.  Paul encourages him to stand, to persevere in the face of opposition and suffering. Every believer is called trust and follow God even in hardships and suffering. Through submission to his will, God will graciously shape you and grow you in his image!

Paul is writing to Timothy again to encourage him to stand firm, to persevere despite the opposition that he may face. He appeals to Timothy, as a spiritual son, to boldly stand on the gospel truths and to faithfully persevere even in suffering, to avoid foolish and divisive debates, and to faithfully stand against false teaching. Endure in the gospel!
