Often wisdom is most clearly displayed through our conversations and verbal interactions with others. The tongue can be a source of great encouragement, help and grace, but it can also be one of the most harmful and damaging sources to one another! Solomon observes throughout the Proverbs, the power and ability of wise words and the danger and damage of foolish words. As believers, our words demonstrate whether or not we are wise.

The purpose of Proverbs as a whole is clearly developed for us in the first seven verses of the book. Wisdom begins with a genuine reverence for God, resisting our natural temptation to reject God’s wise direction and treat it as insignificant. We must remember our need for the wisdom of God and the strength that only God can provide to rightly apply that wisdom.
