As we begin this new study of the Epistle to the Hebrews, we discovered many aspects of the book and its message for us today.  Ultimately, the goal of Hebrews is to present the truth that Jesus Christ is supreme, far above any angel, priest, or old covenant institution; therefore, every believer must cling to the true rest found in Christ by faith and encourage others in the church to persevere. A simple outline of Hebrews helps us to see this approach by the author.

  1. The Superiority of Christ’s Person and example of endurance (1:1–4:13)

  2. The Superiority of Christ’s Priestly Work enabling us to endure (4:14–10:18)

  3. The Superiority of Christ’s Power empowering us to faithfully endure (10:19–13:25)

God has spoken to us through his Son and we can persevere as we follow him!

Though the author of Hebrews is unknown, the writer offers instruction about Jesus; his person, his work and truth that he is better than angels, Moses, priests and any feature of the old covenant. Jesus is Supreme and Sufficient for believers! Our salvation is secured through his sacrificial work for us. As followers, we can rest in the provision of Jesus for us and we must persevere and encourage others to remain faithful to him.
