A somber, triumphal entry

April 10, 2022 Speaker: pastor dave Series: The Gospel according to Luke - Certainty for Believers

Topic: Triumphal Entry, Prophecy, Luke, 1-AM Sermons Passage: Luke 19:28-48

Luke presents Jesus as the King entering Jerusalem, but it is not the triumphal entry of a conquering hero - it is instead the entrance of a rejecting Messiah, a rejected prophet. In response, Jesus weeps over the city and the rejection the day of visitation; however, the circumstances don't match their expectations and the people largely reject Jesus. This rejection results in the future judgment of God.  We know it as "The Jewish War." The consequences of rejecting Jesus are sobering and cause great sorrow to God and to the one that rejects. By God's grace, we can honor Jesus in the way that we respond and live our lives.

Luke writes to strengthen believers, to address misperceptions of unbelievers, while emphasizing the divine and perfect human aspects of Jesus’ life!  Jesus alone is the Lord and Redeemer of all humanity!  He offers us the assurance that God is at work, accomplishing his purposes, that Jesus is God incarnate and that true followers of Jesus are in reality the people of God, that the Holy Spirit is essential for our every response and action and that no matter who you are or where you’re from Jesus died to rescue you! Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God and though every promise is not yet realized, we can be certain that one day they will be! Luke writes to give certainty and assurance to believers – you can be certain that everything about Jesus is true!
