Betrayal vs. Covenant Faithfulness

February 27, 2022 Speaker: pastor dave Series: The Gospel according to Luke - Certainty for Believers

Topic: Communion , Betrayal, Faithfulness of God, Luke, 1-AM Sermons Passage: Luke 22:1-23

Luke transitions and begins by recounting the arrangement by Judas to betray Jesus. Luke then moves to the final day of Jesus' life and the arrangements for the Passover celebration and the meal itself. Throughout the Passover meal, Jesus institutes the Lord's Table Celebration and makes of a point of the elements of the Passover and their connection to his soon coming work on the cross. At the conclusion, he addresses the betrayer that is among the disciples. Luke makes the point that despite our failures, sins & even betrayals, our God remains faithful to his covenant! God is faithful to us, despite our sins and failures.

Luke writes to strengthen believers, to address misperceptions of unbelievers, while emphasizing the divine and perfect human aspects of Jesus’ life!  Jesus alone is the Lord and Redeemer of all humanity!  He offers us the assurance that God is at work, accomplishing his purposes, that Jesus is God incarnate and that true followers of Jesus are in reality the people of God, that the Holy Spirit is essential for our every response and action and that no matter who you are or where you’re from Jesus died to rescue you! Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God and though every promise is not yet realized, we can be certain that one day they will be! Luke writes to give certainty and assurance to believers – you can be certain that everything about Jesus is true!
