Luke continues to explain the teaching of Jesus in the temple, during the final week for his crucifixion and death. While teaching, some point out the majesty of the temple and Jesus again (19:41-44) foretells of its coming destruction. Some ask when this will happen and Jesus warns his hearers to be discerning and for this followers to expect persecution.  In the face of persecution, Jesus calls them to be faithful and to have endurance. The point Jesus is making throughout is not about the future and all that will come and when it will occur - his point is that genuine followers will face persecution but must respond with discerning & faithful endurance! We must be faithful! We must be discerning and we must have endurance. God alone can give us grace, even as the last days approach!

Luke writes to strengthen believers, to address misperceptions of unbelievers, while emphasizing the divine and perfect human aspects of Jesus’ life!  Jesus alone is the Lord and Redeemer of all humanity!  He offers us the assurance that God is at work, accomplishing his purposes, that Jesus is God incarnate and that true followers of Jesus are in reality the people of God, that the Holy Spirit is essential for our every response and action and that no matter who you are or where you’re from Jesus died to rescue you! Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God and though every promise is not yet realized, we can be certain that one day they will be! Luke writes to give certainty and assurance to believers – you can be certain that everything about Jesus is true!
