James continues his instruction about trials and enduring. He addresses the temptation to blame God for your trials. This can be a struggle for anyone going through or trying to endure suffering. James warns that God is not the author of temptation and does not tempt humanity. Instead, James reminds of the goodness of God toward us and the greatest demonstration of his goodness is the work of Christ on our behalf. Our God is good and we can trust him, no matter what circumstances we face. You must not blame God for trials; instead, acknowledge he is the source of all good in your life!
James, the brother of Jesus, writes to Jewish believers who have been scattered, likely because of persecution. James encourages these believers through instruction on trials, genuine faith, and the appropriate interactions within the community of believers. His goal is to give guidance to these believers as they continue to engage with one another apart from the oversight of the established church in Jerusalem.
