Glorious Savior & Frail Disciples

May 2, 2021 Speaker: pastor dave Series: The Gospel according to Luke - Certainty for Believers

Topic: Glory of God, Disciples, Luke, 1-AM Sermons Passage: Luke 9:28–50

Luke continues with the account of the transfiguration of Jesus both the display of his glory before the disciples and the confirming word of the Father. The disciples don't fully understand, but they would eventually.  When they come down off the mountain, Luke gives four examples of the weakness and frailty of the disciples.  All of us, as followers of Jesus, are weak and prone to failure.  Our successes are always because of Jesus and our failures are always due to our own weaknesses. God can give us grace, the strength that we need to obey and follow his direction and leading in our lives.

Luke writes to strengthen believers, to address misperceptions of unbelievers, while emphasizing the divine and perfect human aspects of Jesus’ life!  Jesus alone is the Lord and Redeemer of all humanity!  He offers us the assurance that God is at work, accomplishing his purposes, that Jesus is God incarnate and that true followers of Jesus are in reality the people of God, that the Holy Spirit is essential for our every response and action and that no matter who you are or where you’re from Jesus died to rescue you! Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God and though every promise is not yet realized, we can be certain that one day they will be! Luke writes to give certainty and assurance to believers – you can be certain that everything about Jesus is true!
