Luke continues with an example of wisdom being justified by all her children. In the account, a woman who is identified as a sinner offers her grateful thanks to Jesus because of forgiveness. She washes his feet and anoints them with perfume, all as an act of gratitude for his merciful forgiveness in her life. Jesus declares that she is forgiven, even as he rebukes his Pharisee host for any kind of loving or even respectful response to him. This sinful woman becomes an example to the Pharisee of the appropriate response to Jesus. How are you responding to Jesus? Have you been forgiven? You can be - today!
Luke writes to strengthen believers, to address misperceptions of unbelievers, while emphasizing the divine and perfect human aspects of Jesus’ life! Jesus alone is the Lord and Redeemer of all humanity! He offers us the assurance that God is at work, accomplishing his purposes, that Jesus is God incarnate and that true followers of Jesus are in reality the people of God, that the Holy Spirit is essential for our every response and action and that no matter who you are or where you’re from Jesus died to rescue you! Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God and though every promise is not yet realized, we can be certain that one day they will be! Luke writes to give certainty and assurance to believers – you can be certain that everything about Jesus is true!
