Luke continues his gospel with an interaction between the followers of John the Baptist and the response to the message of God.  The Pharisees and teachers of the law reject the message of God, whether it comes from John or Jesus.  Ultimately, it is not the messenger they dislike, it is the message.  Like children, they have expectations that are not being met and they are not happy about it. Jesus reminds us that those who accept the message of truth justify, validate the message by their obedience. The truths of Scripture are not ours to do with as we may please, we must accept the truth of God on his terms not on ours.

Luke writes to strengthen believers, to address misperceptions of unbelievers, while emphasizing the divine and perfect human aspects of Jesus’ life!  Jesus alone is the Lord and Redeemer of all humanity!  He offers us the assurance that God is at work, accomplishing his purposes, that Jesus is God incarnate and that true followers of Jesus are in reality the people of God, that the Holy Spirit is essential for our every response and action and that no matter who you are or where you’re from Jesus died to rescue you! Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God and though every promise is not yet realized, we can be certain that one day they will be! Luke writes to give certainty and assurance to believers – you can be certain that everything about Jesus is true!
