The Call of God

January 31, 2021 Speaker: pastor dave Series: The Gospel according to Luke - Certainty for Believers

Topic: Call of God, Peter, Luke, 1-AM Sermons Passage: Luke 5:1–11

Luke transitions to a section that emphasizes the call of God in the lives of the disciples.  Here Jesus calls Peter and James and John.  This account addresses beautifully the heart of a true follower when they see themselves for what they are (sinner) and see Jesus for all he is (the Holy One).  Peter responds in humility and Jesus calls him and his partners to follow him from then on.  They did - they left everything behind and followed Jesus.  Are you following Jesus?  Is Jesus your most important priority?  He can be and he must be!

Luke writes to strengthen believers, to address misperceptions of unbelievers, while emphasizing the divine and perfect human aspects of Jesus’ life!  Jesus alone is the Lord and Redeemer of all humanity!  He offers us the assurance that God is at work, accomplishing his purposes, that Jesus is God incarnate and that true followers of Jesus are in reality the people of God, that the Holy Spirit is essential for our every response and action and that no matter who you are or where you’re from Jesus died to rescue you! Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God and though every promise is not yet realized, we can be certain that one day they will be! Luke writes to give certainty and assurance to believers – you can be certain that everything about Jesus is true!
